Elda is a historic shoemaking town at the gateway to the Vinalopó valley, in the interior of the province of Alicante. It combines industrial tradition, an old town and mountain scenery, about 38 km from Alicante.
The Footwear Museum is the great symbol of the town and one of the most important in Spain: it traces the history of the shoe and the industry that shaped Elda.
Stroll through the streets and squares of the centre, with the church of Santa Ana and buildings that recall the heyday of the footwear industry.
At the top of the hill, the ruins of the castle offer good views of the town and the valley. An easy walk for history lovers.
Around the town there are easy hiking routes, ideal to combine an urban visit with a bit of nature.
Do not leave without trying the typical stews and sweets of the area, such as tortas and sequillos, with a good coffee.
From Alicante and its metropolitan area, getting to Elda is comfortable by motorway.
