What to see in Alicante: the city, the castle and its beaches

Alicante is a charming Mediterranean city: city beaches, a castle with spectacular views and a lively old town. If it is your first time, this is what you cannot miss.

🏰 Santa Bárbara Castle

The symbol of the city. Go up Mount Benacantil to see the castle and some panoramic views of Alicante and the bay. You can walk up, drive or take the lift from Postiguet beach.

🌊 Beaches

• Postiguet Beach — the city beach of Alicante, at the foot of the old town.
• Playa de San Juan — wide and sandy, ideal for families. A bit further out, in the north.
• Costa Blanca — if you want to explore more beaches, it is easy to get around by taxi.

🚶 Old town and Santa Cruz quarter

Narrow white streets, little houses with flowers, tapas bars and the Basilica of Santa María. It is the historic heart of the city and perfect to get lost for a while.

🌴 La Explanada de España

A seafront promenade by the port, with its famous wavy mosaic pavement, kiosks and atmosphere. A classic for a sunset stroll.

📅 What to do in 1 day

A quick itinerary: Santa Bárbara Castle in the morning, old town and tapas at midday, La Explanada in the afternoon and Postiguet beach to finish. Everything is fairly close together.

🚕 Tip for getting around

If you arrive in the area or stay outside the centre (San Juan, nearby beaches), a taxi is the most comfortable option. We pick up in the Alicante metropolitan area and take you to the city, the beaches or the airport. If you want to head to Benidorm or other destinations, we also take you at a fixed price.
